LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wyoming suffered their third loss of the year as they fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex in Laramie. Wyoming slips to 2-3-0 while Fresno State improves to 3-2-0.
"We created a lot of opportunities today but we were just unable to put one in the net," UW head coach Anne Moore said. "It's tough to lose to a team when you put so many shots on goal and can't finish."
The Cowgirls outshot the Bulldogs 15-5 and put seven of those shots on goal, but the Fresno defense held tough and freshman goaltender Kaity Revel made some key saves to keep the Cowgirls from getting on the scoreboard.
Fresno State got on the board early thanks to junior Nicole Gutierrez's second goal of the season at the 3:08 mark.
"It's frustrating that they scored so early and we were never able to recover from it," Moore continued. "We had the opportunities, we just need to capitalize on them."
"We did a much better job of controlling balls in the air. We are getting better with each game and we have to keep building off of that."
Wyoming will return to action next Friday as they host the Jacksonville University Dolphins at 4 p.m. in the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex and then on Sunday the Cowgirls will play host to the Akron Zips at 12 p.m.
