LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of WyomingCowgirl soccer team scored a late second half goal to tie Denver 1-1,Friday afternoon at the Colorado Soccer Classic in Boulder, Colo.With the tie, the Cowgirls record moves to 3-1-3.
The first goal of the game wasn't scored until the 59:15 mark ofthe second half when Denver took a free kick outside of the box and itdeflected off of a Cowgirl defender into the back of the UW net. ThePioneers held a 1-0 lead until the 84:16 mark when senior MeghanRacette scored the Cowgirl equalizer. Fellow senior Darci Ferrellfound Racette in the middle for the senior's first goal of theseason. The assist is Ferrell's first of the season. Regulationtime ended in a 1-1 tie and the Cowgirls found themselves going toovertime for the fourth time this season.
In the first overtime, Wyoming outshot Denver 2-1 but the Pioneer'smade saves on both shots.
The Cowgirls also outshot Denver in the second overtime 3-2 but noneof the shots were on goal and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Sheppard recorded a career high 12 savesin the game. Her 12 saves is a new Colorado Soccer Classic record.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Sunday when they take onLouisiana State in an 11 a.m. game. LSU enters Sunday's game with a4-3 record after losing to Colorado 4-1 today. Sunday's game willbe the first time in school history that the Cowgirls have played LSU.
