LARAMIE, Wyo. (September 19, 2004) - The University of WyomingCowgirl soccer team fell to Louisiana State University, 1-0, Sundayafternoon during the final day of the 2004 Colorado Soccer Classic inBoulder, Colo. With the loss, the Cowgirls overall record falls to3-2-3.
LSU got on the board at the 31:22 mark of the first half when StacyBishop headed Michell De Cespedes' corner kick into the back of theUW net. The goal was all LSU needed as they held Wyoming scorelessfor the remainder of the game to earn the 1-0 victory.
The Cowgirls took twice as many shots as the Tigers but were unableto convert on any of their 18 shots. LSU took just nine shots in thegame and freshman Ashley Sheppard made saves on three of them.
Offensively, junior Mercy Adetoye led the Cowgirls with five shots, three of which were on goal.
"It was a pretty disappointing day," said UW head coach AnneMoore. "We were kind of lethargic and didn't do the things weneeded to do to win the game. Mercy had a good game up top andcreated a bunch of scoring opportunities but we couldn't seem to getone. We have to do a better job of converting more of our scoringopportunities. I also thought that Ashley played well in goal"
The Cowgirls will travel to Northern Colorado this Wednesday for a 3p.m. matchup before returning home to take on Cal State Fullerton onSunday. Sunday's game will kickoff at 1 p.m. at the UW SoccerStadium.
"We are going to go back to the drawing board this week in practiceand hopefully we can come back and have a better showing againstNorthern Colorado on Wednesday," added Moore.
