Junior Tamika Wilson led the way with a hat trick and three other Cowgirls notched goals as Wyoming defeated the Jacksonville Dolphins 6-2 on Friday at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex in Laramie. The Cowgirls improved to 3-3-0 on the year while Jacksonville fell to 2-5-0.

"We talked to our team about coming out in the first ten minutes of the game and really setting the tone," UW head coach Anne Moore said. "We did a good job of controlling those first ten minutes by coming out strong."

Wyoming did exactly that by scoring two goals within the first ten minutes on Friday. Freshman Juliana Candelaria scored her first goal of her career at the 2:30 mark to give the Cowgirls the early lead. Junior Tamika Wilson extended the lead with her third goal of the year (11th of her career) at the 8:01 mark. Wilson added her second goal of the day at the 29:01 mark to give the Cowgirls the 3-0 lead. Wilson wasn't done yet as she completed the hat trick at the 30:38 mark to give the Cowgirls the 4-0 lead at the half.

Wilson's hat trick was the fourth in Wyoming Cowgirl Soccer history and her eight shots tied the record for most shots in a game. The Cowgirls had not had a hat trick since September 14, 2003 when Laramie native Darci Farrell did it in a win against Jackson State.

"Tamika was just amazing today," Moore said. "She did a great job finishing today which she had worked on all week. She showed today how strong she is and making the most of her opportunities."

Jacksonville got on the board early in the second half with a quick goal at the 46:41 mark by junior Keri Zwikker, her sixth of the year.

Wyoming struck right back with a goal at the 47:28 mark by freshman Jerrica DiVincenzo (first of her career). The Cowgirls added their last goal of the game at the 55:53 mark when junior Laine Hubbard scored her first goal of her career on an unassisted shot from the left side of the 18 yard box in the upper right corner to give the Cowgirls the 6-1 lead.

Jacksonville's final goal came at the 87:11 mark by junior Katie Orr, her first of the year.

Wyoming recorded the second most points all-time in a single game with 18 and also recorded the second most assists all-time for a single game with six. The last time Wyoming scored six goals in a game was on October 13, 2000 when they defeated Southern Alabama 6-0.

"We really needed this win today and it was a great team effort," Moore continued. "We had a chance to get everyone in the game and get some good minutes for a lot of our young players. Now we need to carry this energy and enthusiasm into Sunday's contest against Akron. They are very similar to us in our style of play and they will bring a solid team here. We need to prepare the same way we did for tonight's game and meet Akron head on."

Wyoming will host the Akron Zips Sunday, September 23, at 12:00 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex in Laramie, Wyoming.
