Weber State's Strong Second Half Freezes Cowgirls

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

After shutting out Weber StateUniversity in the first half, the Cowgirl soccer team was unable to regaincontrol of the game as the Wildcats scored two goals in the second to defeatWyoming, 2-1 on Friday.

During the first half of play, the Cowgirls came out tough with juniortransfer, Tuva Gulbrandsen scoring a goal at the 17:14 mark, on an assistfrom junior Renee' Minero. Wyoming combined for eleven shots during thehalf to take the shutout into the locker room.

However, a sluggish Cowgirl squad managed only two shots in the secondhalf, compared Weber State's nine. Ten minutes into the half, WSUmidfielder, Rochelle Hoover scored an unassisted goal, to tie the game upfor the Wildcats. The second goal followed with only four minutes left toplay in the game. Kaleen Grant scored the final goal with an assist fromJessica Murphy, giving the Weber State the win.

"Weber State is a good team," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "They foughthard and came back strong and we didn't get the job done. We have beenplaying well as a team. We have been working hard and then in the secondhalf the effort wasn't there and it cost us the game. We got knocked offthe ball, we got beat to the ball. The second half was just very flat forour team and we payed for it."

The Cowgirls fall to 2-4-1 with the loss. They complete their five gamehomestand on Sunday when they take on Utah State at 1:00 P.M.. at UW SoccerStadium.
