Ferrell Scores in Double Overtime to Give UW 1-0 Win Over Utah State

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

A match-up that looked to be a stalematebetween Wyoming and Utah State, ended in exciting fashion as Cowgirl DarciFerrell scored the only goal of the game with only two minutes remaining inthe second overtime. Wyoming finished with a 1-0 victory over the Aggies atUW Soccer Stadium on Sunday .

The goal marked the first ever collegiate score for the Cowgirl sophomoreout of Laramie, Wyo. She was assisted in the goal by Tuva Gulbrandsen, atransfer student from Oslo, Norway. It was Guldrandsen's first assist ofthe season.

"I was proud of our team and how they stuck with it," said UW head coachAnne Moore. "It looked like it was going to end up being a stalemate.After time, people were tired after playing two games this weekend, fromboth sides. Neither team created great opportunities in the overtimeperiods. It was a great comeback."

Both teams displayed great defense throughout the game limiting the numberof shots. Wyoming managed 15, while Utah State shot ten. Ferrell had fourof the Cowgirl shots and sophomore Melissa Bowman had three. The leader inshots for the Aggies was Amber Tracy with five.

"I thought that our defense did a great job," said Moore. "We didn't givethem a whole lot of opportunities. They had a couple of looks, but for themost part I thought we were pretty solid in the back. They (Wyomingdefense) did an excellent job holding strong and not giving them (UtahState) any chances."

The Aggies entered the game with a strong 4-1-2 record, their best seasonstart in the program's seven years of existence. The Cowgirls handed UtahState their second loss and now lead the series 3-1-0. With the victory,Wyoming is now 3-4-1 on the season.

The Cowgirls next game will come on the road in Portland, Ore., where theywill take on the Portland State Vikings on Fri., Sept. 27 before heading toDenver, Colo. for a match-up against the University of Denver Pioneers onWed., Oct. 2.
