Laramie, Wyo. -
The University of the Pacific got a goal in the 68th minute of the game from forward Natalie Dorr, to give the Tigers a 1-0 victory over the University of Wyoming at the UW Soccer Field. The loss drops Wyomings season record to 2-4-0, while Pacific's win brought their record to 5-1-1.
Amanda Vandervort had a brilliant game in goal for UW, making 12 saves and keeping her team in the game, despite the fact that the Tigers outshot the Cowgirls 26-12.
This was the second meeting between UW and Pacific in women's soccer. The two teams last met on Oct. 6, 1995, in Stockton, California, with Pacific winning 4-0. The Tigers now have a record of 2-0 against UW.
The Cowgirl's next home match will be Sunday, Sept. 27, versus Pittsburgh University, at 1:00 p.m. at the UW Soccer Field. Their next road matches will be the following week versus UNLV and Loyola Marymount in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 1 and 2.
Post-game quotes from UW head coach Liza Grant: "One of the things that we have struggled with is coming out and setting the tone, and I think that today we did come out and set the tone. At the begining of the game and then during the first part of the second half is when we were in control. But then we just sat back, and instead of taking advantage of them being tired we let them back in the game.
"We did play much more physical today, which is the way we need to play, but I still felt that we were a step behind them in reading the game.
"Pacific is a team that ran over us in 1995, and for the Pacific coach, just like the Auburn coach, to come up to us after the game and say that this is a completely different UW team and for him to be concerned with us and to feel lucky to come away with a 1-0, is a huge compliment to the way this team has put in the work and tried to be better.
"Amanda Vandervort is just getting better and better, and shes becoming more and more of a leader."
