The University of WyomingCowgirl soccer team shut out Drake University 1-0 to improveits record to 4-3, Friday night in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Cowgirls scored the lone goal of the first half at the28:43 mark when Christine Nagel took a corner kick and oneof Drake's players miss handled it as it went into theback of their own net. The first half ended in a 1-0Cowgirl lead. Drake out shot Wyoming 6-3 as Cowgirlgoalkeeper Lori Scheider made two saves.
The second half was very physical and neither team couldget much going on offensive. Drake continued to putpressure on the Cowgirl defense but Scheider stepped up andmade three big saves to seal the win for Wyoming. Drakeoutshot Wyoming 6-3 in the second half and 12-6 in thematch. Scheider finished with six saves.
"Overall we gave a great effort," said UW head coachAnne Moore. "It was a very physical game with a lot offouls but I was really proud of the way we hung in there andcame away with the win. Lori came up with some big saves,Angela (O'Dell) had a great game in the middle and Doreen(Thompson) played really well in her first career start."
The Cowgirl road trip continues Sunday afternoon as theytravel to Creighton University. The Jays are 3-2-2 thus farin the season. Game time is set for 1 pm.
