Cowgirl Soccer Team is Best in UW History

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming at Idaho State - Wyoming 2-0 - Box Score

At 6-3-1, the University of Wyomingsoccer team has achieved its best record in a season in the program's briefhistory. The win that put them over the top came today against Idaho State,with the Cowgirls shutting down the Bengals 2-0. The victory also brokeISU's eleven game winning streak at home.

The Cowgirls capitalized on a sluggish Bengal team by scoring the two goalsearly in the game. Sara Stephens drove the first goal in for the Cowgirlsat 10:47 off a cross from the left hand side of the box. A foul in the boxat 17:03 led to a penalty kick, scored by Kelly McShane. It was McShane'ssixth goal of the season, and it beats her own record of (5) goals scored ina single season (1998).

Wyoming was outshot by the Bengal's 15-7. Cowgirl goalie Amanda Vandervortwas instrumental in keeping UW in the game, making nine key saves to keepIdaho State from scoring. This was Vandervort's third shut-out of the year.

"We had a great game," said head coach Anne Moore. "Especially in themidfield. The girls are really working as a team, and executing playsexceptionally well."

The Cowgirls have at least nine more tries to improve their record thisseason. Conference play kicks off next week, with Wyoming traveling to UNLVand San Diego State Oct. 6 and 8, respectively. The Cowgirls next homematch will be Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. when they take on South Alabama.
