The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team shutout Eastern Washington 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Cheney. With the win, the Cowgirls head into next week's conference schedule with an overall record of 5-6.
The Cowgirls scored the lone goal of the game when captain Angela O'Dell scored her first goal of the season in the 39th minute. O'Dell converted a direct kick when she found the upper right corner of the Eastern Washington goal. The Eagles out-shot the Cowgirls nine to eight in the half with Wyoming goalie Lori Scheider making four saves and Eagle goalie Kristen Parnell making three.
Both teams had ample scoring opportunities in the secondhalf but neither team was able to convert. Wyoming tookseven shots, three of them on goal but couldn't get onepast Parnell, as she recorded saves on all three shots.Eastern Washington pressured the Cowgirl defense taking nine shots, however only one was on goal and Scheider came away with the save. Scheider finished the match with five saves and recorded her third shutout of the season.
The Cowgirls will begin Mountain West Conference play next weekend with home games against UNLV and San Diego State. Wyoming will play host to UNLV Friday afternoon at 3 pm and San Diego State, Sunday at 1 pm.
