A tough, organized defense wasn't enoughfor the Wyoming soccer team to come away with a win today. UW lost 1-0 tovisiting Denver University at Cowgirl Soccer Field, the first home matchsince Sept. 2.

The Pioneers (9-2-0) attacked immediately, scoring only a minute intoregulation. DU's Kristin Warren scored her fifth goal of the season on aheader off the corner kick from Jamie Norwood.

Wyoming (2-6-1) collected themselves quickly and did not allow anothergoal for the Pioneers in a fantastic defensive contest. The offense came upshort for the Cowgirls, however. Wyoming shot only four times compared toDenver's 20.

"You need to be able to play offense to win games, and that's been astruggle for us all season," said Wyoming head soccer coach Anne Moore. "Wecouldn't make that transition and it was difficult for us to get an attackgoing. We ended up playing defense the whole time and you can't win gamesthat way."

Injuries hinder the Cowgirls right now with several starters outindefinitely, not to discount the talented DU team. The Pioneers have atalented arsenal of players who possess and feed the ball well.Traditionally they score several goals against their opponents and havescored at least once in every contest this season. UW is one of only fourteams to hold DU to one goal.

UW begins conference play next weekend when they travel to New Mexico. TheCowgirls also play non-conference opponent Colorado College on the roadbefore facing San Diego State at home Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.
