After a defensive struggle in the first half, Cowgirl senior Tamika Wilson scored her first goal of the season, as Wyoming beat 29th ranked TCU 1-0 at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex on Friday.

Both the Cowgirls and the Horn Frogs played tough defense in the first half. Junior Kerstyn Etheridge anchored the defense against the TCU attack, limiting the Horn Frogs to five shots in the first half.

"TCU is so dynamic in the attack and they have so many players that get forward, butour back four did a great job limiting their opportunities," said UW head coach Danny Sanchez.

Coming out of halftime the Cowgirls had great chances off of corner kicks but were unable to capitalize on any of the opportunities. For the game Wyoming had six corner kicks, three in each half.

"In the second half we stepped up our play a little bit. We did a good job of winning the first ball, and played with a lot of energy which we expect to do in conference games," Sanchez continued. "When I put Tamika back in the game I thought it would be a good time to get the first goal and she was able to do that."

Wilson's goal came at the 77:08 mark on an assist from sophomore Jerrica DiVincenzo. Both players were close to the goal and Wilson was able to get by the defender and score her first of the season.

With the goal, Wilson is in sole possession of second place all-time in career goals at Wyoming with 20.

"After getting the goal we didn't want to be too defensive but wanted to play smart,"said Sanchez. "We did that and had players behind the ball. If they were going to score we wanted them to go through all of our defense."

With the victory, Wyoming improves to 8-5-1 and 2-0 in the MWC. TCU falls to 9-2-1and 1-1 in conference play.

Up next for the Cowgirls will be another conference opponent in New Mexico. The Lobos and Cowgirls will meet for the 16th time ever."After a big win we have to play an equally good team in New Mexico. A test of a good team is the performance in the next game after a big win so I am anxious to see how we do on Sunday," Sanchez added.

The game time between the Lobos and Cowgirls will be at high noon at the Louis S.Madrid Sports Complex on Sunday.
