LARAMIE, Wyo. - A goal by Nevada's Bobby Reilly in the 83rd minute lifted the Wolf Pack to a 1-0 victory over the Cowgirls Friday afternoon at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
At the 82:30 mark with just over seven minutes remaining in the game, Reilly took a cross from teammate Daisha Jones-Oglesby following a scramble in the box and slipped it past Wyoming goalie Courtney Merkle for the game-winning goal.
The win lifted Nevada (5-8-1, 1-2-0 MW) to its first conference win, while Wyoming falls to 7-5-2, 0-2-1 in the MW.
"We controlled the offensive tempo for most of the game but let that late goal get past us," said Wyoming coach Pete Cuadrado. "We're just not making good decisions when we get into the attacking third and we're not putting balls in the frame to get quality shots at the net. All we can do is continue to work on it and get ready for Boise State on Sunday."
The Cowgirls had several scoring opportunities throughout the game as they outshot Nevada, 15-4, including a 10-2 advantage in the second half, and earned seven shots on goal to the Wolf Pack's two. Wyoming also had six corner kick opportunities to score compared to zero for Nevada.
Forward Lucie McDowell led the Cowgirls with four shot attempts (two on goal), while Mara Cosgrove added three shots with two on goal. Liz O'Reilly, Loren Mahoney and Kasey Curtis also had two shot attempts in the game.
Nevada goalie Dana Moreno picked up her fifth win of the year as she tallied seven saves in the match, while Merkle falls to 3-3-2 for the year.
The Cowgirls face Boise State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
