Soccer Dominates South Alabama In 6-0 Home Shutout

South Alabama at Wyoming - Wyoming 6-0 - Box Score

It may be Friday the thirteenth, but thathas no effect on the 7-5-1 University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team.Wyoming walloped the University of Southern Alabama 6-0 today, with seniorKelly McShane scoring her second hat-trick of the season and the second inUW's history.

Wyoming came out strong right away and McShane scored her first goal of theafternoon at 6:48 off a corner kick from Anne Maddock. Seven minutes later,Renee' Minero scored her first collegiate goal on an outstanding shot snuckin with the help of Abby Mouch. McShane then scored her second goal of the dayat 23:54.

In the second period, the Cougars came out with more tenacity but couldnot keep up with a spectacular Cowgirl effort. Maddock scored UW goal numberfour at 48:32, then assisted on Angela O'Dell's first career goal three minuteslater. UW's final goal came from McShane off a boot from Mouch at 55:47.McShane is the only player in the history of Cowgirl soccer to score ahat-trick, this is her second of the season.

"Kelly (McShane) did a great job for us. She's a tough, aggressive playerand she did a great job of winning the ball for us and getting it in theback of the net," said Wyoming's head coach, Anne Moore.

"We did not expect to dominate like this," continued Moore. "South Alabamahas beaten some good teams, they just came out a little flat."

The Cowgirls look forward to hosting conference opponent University of NewMexico on Sunday, taking with them the momentum of this spectacular win. A1 p.m. kickoff is set for that match, the first home conference game of theseason.
