Wyoming Falls to Utah in MWC Soccer Action

The University of Wyoming soccer team dropped a 2-0 conference match to Utah, Friday night at Ute Field in Salt Lake City, Utah.

With the loss the Cowgirls fall to 5-5-3 overall and 1-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes improve to 10-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in MWC play.

Utah scored a pair of first half goals and never looked back as they shutout the Cowgirls 2-0 on the night. Adele Letro scored the first Ute goal of the game at the 18:02 mark when she took an assist from Katy Reineke and Amanda Feigt and scored from about 10 yards out. Chelsea Card scored the second, and final, Utah goal at the 32:58 mark when she finished a rebound off of a corner kick by Reineke. In the half, Utah out-shot the Cowgirls 9-5.

Despite being two goals down, the Cowgirls played a tough second half and managed to take eight shots to match Utah's eight, while holding the Ute offense scoreless in the half.

Freshman Tamika Wilson led the Cowgirls with four shots on the night. Sophomore Jessica Brown took three while senior Kara Walters and sophomore Amanda Lathrop each took two shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Sheppard played all 90-minutes in the UW goal, making five saves.

The Cowgirls will have a chance to bounce back as they return to the field on Saturday to take on BYU. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at BYU's South Stadium. The Cougars enter the weekend as the 24th ranked team in the nation according to SoccerBuzz Magazine. They are currently 13-1-1 after beating Air Force 6-0 on Thursday night.
