Cowgirl Soccer Ties New Mexico in First MWC Match

University of Wyoming soccer opened up theMountain West Conference season with a 0-0 draw against the University ofNew Mexico in Albuquerque last night.

The Cowgirls (2-6-2, 0-0-1 MWC) were sharp on defense but could not produceoffensively despite several ample opportunities. Sophomore Marci Crank ledUW with three of the team's 13 shots, but without result.

New Mexico (1-8-2, 0-0-1) faced similar problems, taking 26 shots andhaving several chances to score. Cowgirl goalie Sarah Kuyper playedexceptionally well, stopping 11 of the Lobo's blasts and recording hersecond shut-out of the season.

In other MWC play this week, San Diego State defeated the University ofUtah, 2-1 in overtime and BYU downed UNLV 3-1.

Wyoming takes on Colorado College (7-2-2) on Sun., Oct. 14 to finish offtheir road trip. The Cowgirls are back in action at home hosting conferenceopponent San Diego State Fri., Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.
