The University of Wyoming soccer team surrendered two second half goals and lost to the 16th ranked BYU Cougars 2-0, Saturday night in Provo, Utah.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fall to 5-6-3 overall and 1-3 in MWC play while BYU, who entered the weekend as the NSCAA/Adidas 16th ranked team in the nation, improves to 14-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the MWC.
BYU scored two second half goals, one in the 68th minute and the other in the 86th minute, as they handed the Cowgirls their third consecutive MWC loss. Both goals were scored by senior Jamie Beck, the first on an assist by Brooke Thulin and Bobbi Tillotson and the second by Katie Larkin and Tillotson.
The Cowgirls held BYU to seven shots in the second half, after allowing BYU to take 15 shots in the first half. In the match, BYU out-shot Wyoming 22-8.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Sheppard played every minute of the match in the UW goal, making a season high 10 saves. Eight of those saves came in the first half alone.
Offensively, freshman Tamika Wilson led the Cowgirls with three shots on the night. Senior Mercy Adetoye tallied a pair of shots, and sophomores Jessica Brown and Kristin Gurrola and freshman Comfort Adetoye each took one shot apiece.
The Cowgirls will return home next weekend for a pair of MWC matches. They will open the weekend on Friday as they take on New Mexico and will finish the homestand with TCU on Sunday. Friday's match is set to begin at 3 p.m. and Sunday's match is set for 1 p.m. Both games will be played at the UW Soccer Stadium.
