Cowgirl Soccer Loses to New Mexico 1-0

LARAMIE, Wyo. - *New Mexico at Wyoming - New Mexico 1-0 - Box Score

Although the University of Wyoming soccerteam played well, they came out with a 1-0 loss to conference opponent NewMexico today.

The Cowgirls came into the match strong and took control of the game early. A quick UNM team kept the ball from getting into their net. The only goalof the game came from the Lobo's Erchen Theys at 17:01. Wyoming had elevenshots in the first period compared to New Mexico's five.

In the second period UW again controlled the ball well, but could not makea goal despite four more shots. The Cowgirls did keep the Lobos fromscoring again. Wyoming goalkeeper Amanda Vandervort had six saves whileUNM's Shelly Hammock saved seven.

"We played well enough to beat them," said Wyoming's head coach Anne Moore. "We were doing the things we needed to do, we possessed the ball and hadmany opportunities but we just couldn't finish it up."

The loss moves the Cowgirls to 7-6-1 (0-3 MWC). New Mexico improved to7-7-0 (2-1 MWC). Wyoming will host another conference opponent, theUniversity of Utah, on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
