Cowgirl Soccer Falls to San Diego State, 2-1

A dominating San Diego State soccerteam handed the Cowgirls a 2-1 loss on Friday, Wyoming's thirdstraight loss in Mountain West Conference action.

The Aztecs jumped ahead early scoring the first goal only two minutes intothe game. Senior Shawni Flint knocked in the corner kick by senior NicoleFindlay for the early lead. San Diego State continued their control overthe game with their second goal at the 16:54 mark, when senior MicheleWagner scored off an assist from junior Kim Castellanos. The half wasfinished with a 2-0 Aztec lead.

Only three minutes into play for the second half, the Cowgirls came outstrong with junior Renee' Minero scoring Wyoming's only goal off a crossfrom junior transfer Tuva Gulbrandsen. Both teams battled back and forthfor the remainder of the game, but were unable to score.

The Cowgirls were outshot by the Aztecs 6-16. Freshman Katie Mak had twoshots for Wyoming and senior Kelly McKay, Gulbrandsen, and sophomore DarciFerrell each had one shot. Junior goalkeeper Lori Scheider managed to savefour shots on goal during the aggressive match-up.

Wyoming will continue their roadtrip as they travel to Las Vegas to take onthe UNLV Rebels on Sun., Oct. 20. The Rebels are 8-4-0 on the season and0-1-0 in the MWC. The Cowgirls will then take on Colorado College onThurs., Oct. 24.
