Cowgirl senior Mercy Adetoye scored two first half goals as the Wyoming soccer team cruised to a 2-0 win over TCU, Sunday afternoon at the UW Soccer Stadium.

With the win, the Cowgirls improve to 7-6-3 overall and 3-3 in Mountain West Conference action. TCU falls to 6-9 overall and 1-5 in MWC play.

The Cowgirls started the game with a bang as they scored their quickest goal of the season at the 6:45 mark. On the scoring play, Amanda Lathrop fed a streaking Tamika Wilson down the right side of the field where Wilson centered it to Mercy Adetoye. Adetoye's defender fell down giving her a one on one with the TCU goalkeeper and she beat Katy Buchanan low and to the left for the eventual game winning goal.

Adetoye put the Cowgirls up 2-0 when she scored her second goal of the game at the 35:21 mark. Adetoye took a long pass over the TCU defense from defender Christina Best, got a breakway and scored her eighth goal of the season. The first half ended in a 2-0 Cowgirl lead as they outshot TCU 7-3 in the half.

Despite several great scoring opportunities in the second half, the Cowgirls were unable find the back of the net and the game ended in a 2-0 Cowgirl win. In the second half alone, Wyoming outshot the Horned Frogs 13-4.

"Overall it was a great team effort today," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "We did exactly what we have been working on and got some great balls through their defense and isolated their goalie one on one. Both our goals were perfect today, we played great balls and Mercy finished. Our midfield did a good job of getting involved in the offense and putting pressure on their defense.

"Our defense played very well today," added Moore. "We held strong especially when they pressured us in the second half. TCU really didn't get any good looks on our defense all day."

Sophomore Ashley Sheppard recorded her second consecutive shutout and her third MWC shutout win of the season. The Cowgirl defense held TCU to just two shots on goal in the game and Sheppard made saves on both.

The Cowgirls will close out the regular season next weekend as they travel to Air Force on Friday and host Northern Colorado on Sunday. They will take on Air Force on Friday at 3 p.m. in Colorado Springs in their final regular season MWC match. They will return home to take on Northern Colorado on Sunday in their regular season finale at 1 p.m. at the UW Soccer Stadium.
