Laramie, Wyo. - The University ofWyoming Cowgirl soccer team lost its final Mountain WestConference game of the season 2-0 to 20th ranked Utah inSalt Lake City, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, theCowgirls finish with a MWC record of 4-2 and their overallrecord drops to 9-8.
Utah scored one goal in each half to claim the 2-0 win.Their first goal came at the 27:11 mark when Bobbie Benegasscored on an assist from Amanda Feight. Utah scored theirsecond goal as Wyoming was making a late charge on offense.The goal came off Feight's foot, this time on an assistfrom Benegas at the 83:30 mark.
The Cowgirls struggled on offense and took just one shot inthe match. Utah, on the other hand, rattled the Cowgirlgoal tallying 22 shots. Cowgirl goalkeeper Lori Scheiderfinished with seven saves while Utah goalkeeper Ashley Masongot the win for the Utes making one save.
"We were a bit tired after playing BYU on Thursday andUtah was very fresh," said UW head coach Anne Moore."We struggled getting stuff going offensively but ourdefense played very tough and made them take most of theirshots from outside of the box. Lori came up with some bigtime saves to keep us in the game but Utah played toughdefense and we couldn't really get much on offense."
The Cowgirls will close out the regular season with a nonconference match-up with Denver next Sunday, Nov. 2. ThePioneers will travel to Laramie for a 1 pm start time at theUW Soccer Stadium.
