The University of Wyoming CowgirlSoccer team traveled to Provo, UT today to take on the BYU Cougars, whowere ranked nineteenth in the 1999 Soccer Buzz Weekly Rankings. TheCougars shut out the Cowgirls 7-0, with six of the seven goals coming inthe first half. The Cowgirls got off three shots on the night, and madea huge defensive stop in the second half, allowing BYU only one goal.The Cowgirls getting shots were junior Kelly McShane, and freshmenMarci Crank and Jina Brigham.
In the goalkeeper position tonight two Cowgirls saw some time. JuniorAmanda Vandervort started and played until the 35th minute, thenfreshman, Sarah Kuyper made an appearance. Vandervort tallied up tensaves, while Kuyper managed to save four. With the addition of tensaves to Vandervort's career stats, she is now the individual careersaves record holder with 277 career saves. The previous record was setby Bobbie Mack who played from 1995-96 at 273.
The Cowgirls next opponent is the Utah Utes. They will matchup onSaturday, Oct. 23, 1999 at 3:00 PM in Salt Lake City, UT. The Utesdefeated Air Force tonight 2-1 in Utah, putting them in a three-way tiefor first-place in MWC with Brigham Young and San Diego State.
