Soccer Loses to Utah in First Game of Road Trip

University of Wyoming freshmen soccerplayers, Mari Gomes and Meghan Racette each scored a goal today in an 8-2loss to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Each was the player'sfirst collegiate goal.

The Cowgirls (2-9-3, 0-2-2 MWC) fell behind early, with the Utes (8-5-0,2-2-0) scoring first at 4:34. Senior forward Amy Kofoed scored a hat-trickin the first period before UW's Mari Gomes made Wyoming's first goal at25:03. At the half, the Cowgirls trailed 5-1.

Wyoming didn't roll over, however. Early into the second period, freshmanMeghan Racette scored her first collegiate goal. Unfortunately, theCowgirls were unable to get anything more going and lost to the Utes, 8-2.

The Cowgirls will try and get themselves together before they face BYU onSat., Oct. 27 in Provo. BYU has consistently been on top of the MountainWest Conference, but Wyoming will be looking for redemption after such acrushing loss. The match with the Cougars kicks off at 7 p.m.
