The University of Wyoming CowgirlSoccer team defeated the Eastern Washington Eagles today in Cheney,Washington 2-1, marking the second ever away victory for the CowgirlProgram. The Cowgirls finish their regular season with a 4-13-1 overallrecord.
Sophomore Laura Miceli was the first Cowgirl to score and got pastEastern Washington?s goalie, Katie Grothkopp at 36:08 to make the score1-0. Then only three minutes later junior Katrina Morton would scorethe game winning goal at 39:06, assisted by junior Kelly McShane.However, the Eagles would not give up and would score with only twominutes left in the first half. The score would remain 2-1 throughoutthe second half.
Morton, in addition to the goal and eight shots taken today, alsobroke some UW career records. She now owns the career shots record with99, the career goals record with eleven, the career points record with26, and the career game winning goals record with five. She has alsobroke the individual season shot record with 43 shots this season.
The Cowgirls out shot the Eagles 27 to 14, and had many individualscontributing offensively. Junior Katrina Morton would lead theCowgirls with eight shots on the day, while juniors Kelly McShane andAnne Maddock both added five shots to their stats. Other Cowgirls withshots were Megan Marsh with four, Jina Brigham with two and severalothers with one.
Next up for the Cowgirls is the Mountain West Conference Tournamentwhere they are seeded number seven and will face number two seeded BYUin the first round.
