The Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship began play with two consecutive shutout games. Following No. 3 seed San Diego State's 3-0 defeat of No. 6 New Mexico in the opener, second-seeded Utah (12-6-1) blanked Wyoming (7-11-1) 4-0 at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas. Utah advances to the semifinals to face the Aztecs Thursday, Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
In the second quarterfinal game, Utah scored three first-half goals to control the game. Junior Amy Kofoed drew first blood at 19:53 on an unassisted 25-yard shot. Freshman Amber Brower scored her first of two goals at 29:36 on a feed from sophomore Shauna Gurr. Freshman Bobbie Benegas capped the first half barrage at 32:41 when she beat the Wyoming goalkeeper one-on-one. Brower's second tally was also assisted by a Gurr corner kick in the 72nd minute.
