#2 BYU defeats #7 Wyoming 1-0 - Box Score
The University of Wyoming CowgirlSoccer team ended their season with a tough loss today against the BYUCougars 1-0. The game was played in Chula Vista, Calif. and was thethird game of the opening round played in the inagural Mountain West Conference Championships.
At half time the Cougars had out shot the Cowgirls one to 21, howeverthe score remained tied at zero. In the second half things lookedsimilar with the Cowgirls getting three shots off, while the Cougars gotoff 21. Then with only eighteen minutes left to play, BYU's MarenHendershot got past freshman goalkeeper Sarah Kuyper to make the gameending score 1-0.
Leading offensively for the Cowgirls were freshman Sarah Stephens withtwo shots, junior Anne Maddock with one and freshman Marci Crank alsowith one.
Defensively for the Cowgirls, goalkeeper, Sarah Kuyper had a tremendousnight tallying up 17 saves on the night and only allowing one goal.Other Cowgirls helping the defensive effort were Katie Groke, JessicaPiccone, Jina Brigham, Abby Mouch and Nan Sommer.
Senior midfielder Nan Sommer was named Second Team All-Conferencetoday at the Conference Tournament and was the only Cowgirl honored witha post season award.
Tomorrow in the Conference Championships, San Diego State will play AirForce at 12:00 PM (MT), while BYU and Utah will compete at 3:00 PM(MT). The Championship game will be played Saturday, Nov. 6,1999 at1:00 PM (MT).
