The third-seeded Rebels of UNLV (12-6-2) defeated thesixth-seeded Wyoming Cowgirls (4-11-3), 1-0, in the third quarterfinal matchof the day at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championshipat Peter Johann Memorial Field on the campus of UNLV.
The Rebels took an early lead with a goal in the fifth minute byjunior midfielder Christyn Enea and held on for remainder of the match toclaim their first conference tournament victory in three seasons. UNLVsenior goalkeeper Alice Gleason kept the Cowgirls at bay with four saves,while posting her fifth shutout of the season. The win was the Rebels 12thof the season, which is the most in the program's four-year history. UNLValso extended their current goal streak to a MWC-high 23 matches.
The Rebels will face seventh-seed Air Force Thursday in the secondsemi-final match beginning at 7 p.m. Top-seed BYU will play No. 4 seed Utahin the first quarterfinal scheduled for 4 p.m.
