SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -
The University of Wyoming women's soccer team played a hard-fought match in Saturday's Mountain West Championship, but were defeated in the sixth minute of overtime by San Diego State,1-0, at the SDSU Sports Deck. Alex Boehm, Alison Clarke and Kasey Curtis were named to the all-tournament team after the game. The Cowgirls finish the season with an 11-9-1 overall record, the second most wins in program history.
"I'm really proud of this team and what they have accomplished this year," UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "I'm very proud of these seniors with playing in two conference championships in their four years. We gave an unbelievable effort tonight, leaving it all out on the field and lost to a great program."
San Diego State controlled most of the match with a 23-8 advantage in shots but Wyoming directed three of its shots on goal to just two for the Aztecs. SDSU senior midfielder Katie Perry eventually found the golden goal in the 96th minute with a shot from 30 yards out. Leading the Cowgirls offensively were sophomore defender Sammi Dunda with two shots, directing both on goal, and freshman forward Candace Sciberras followed with two shots and one shot on goal. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Alex Boehm made one save in goal.
