University of Wyoming freshmansoccer standout, Kristin Stangl, was recently named to the Soccer BuzzMagazine Central Region All-Freshman team.
Stangl, a defender from Lone Tree, Colo., is the first ever WyomingCowgirl to be honored by Soccer Buzz.
This season, she started in eighteen games, scored three goals andhad one assist en route to a first team All-Mountain West ConferenceSelection. Offensively, her best game of the season came inWyoming's 3-1 victory over San Diego State when she scored the gamewinning goal and added an assist on the Cowgirls final goal. Sheranked third on the team with a shot percentage of .250.
She helped lead the Cowgirls to a 10-9 overall record and a MWC markof 4-2, the best finish in school history. The Cowgirls closed outMWC play in a second place tie with BYU, the best ever conferencefinish.
The Central Region is by far the largest of the six soccer regions,with a total of 67 schools.
The magazine has been awarding the nation's top players since 1996. Awards are decided by a vote open to all Division I head coaches andSoccer Buzz staff.
