The University of Wyoming Cowgirl Soccer team and head coach Danny Sanchez would like to announce the addition of six student-athletes to the 2011-12 squad.

"Wyoming soccer is excited to add these six student-athletes to our program and university," Sanchez said. "They are all excellent students, who also have the ability to make an immediate impact on our soccer program. We like that they all come from strong club backgrounds and are versatile enough to help us in numerous spots on the field. We are looking forward to the 2011 season and incorporating these players with our returners."

The six athletes joining the Cowgirls will be looking to replace outgoing seniors Bostyn Burger, Jerrica DiVincenzo, Jules Candelaria, Chelsea Coddington and Kaite Amsberry.

This year's class will be looking to help the Cowgirls improve on their 7-10-1 record from a season ago.

Joining the Cowgirls for the 2011-12 season will be Abbey Armijo (Jackson, Wyo.), Hayley Charlton (Warrenville, Ill.), Kasey Curtis (Sacramento, Calif.), Kristen Howard (Richmond, Texas), Loren Mahoney (Baulkham Hills, Australia) and Sheree Small (Gillette, Wyo.).

The following is an individual look at each Cowgirl addition:

Abbey Armijo, from Jackson, Wyo., has played forward and defense on her high school and club teams, but will be looked at primarily in the back for the Cowgirls. Armijo comes to Wyoming from Jackson Hole High School, where she is a letter winner in soccer heading into her senior season. During her freshman season, she led Jackson to a Class 3A state championship and was her team's leading scorer throughout the state tournament. She was also a member of the US Youth Soccer Wyoming State Champions in 2006-07. Armijo played her club soccer with Jackson Hole SC and Sparta United out of Utah. She missed her sophomore and junior high school seasons to compete for Sparta United and helped them to a third place finish in the 2009 Utah State Cup. Armijo also helped Jackson HS to multiple cross country and basketball state championships.

Hayley Charlton, from Warrenville, Ill., will play as an outside back for the Cowgirls. She was a member of 2008 and 2010 DuPage Valley Conference Champions at Warrenville High School, as well as the 2008 and the 2010 Illinois Regional champions. She was named team captain for her high school squad during the 2011 season. She not only excelled on the pitch, but also in the classroom, where she was named Academic All-Conference in 2008, '09 and '10 and has been on the honor roll every year in high school.

Kasey Curtis is a 6-foot-1 striker who played for St. Francis High School in Sacramento, Calif. She was a four-year letter winner for Rick Carrigan at St. Francis, leading her team to four consecutive Delta River and Sac Joaquin Section championships. Individually, she was named All-League in 2010 and to the 2010 St. Mary's California Classic All-Tournament team. Curtis was named her club team captain from 2007 to 2011. As a member of her high school team she helped them to a regional semi-final appearance in 2009, as well as an ESPN national high school ranking of 11th in the nation in 2010. Kristin plays her club soccer with Eclipse SC and led them to the 2009 South Texas State Championship and a Region III quarterfinal appearance.

Loren Mahoney is transferring in from the University of Sydney. Loren is a native of Baulkham Hills, Australia, and was named All-Region from 2006 to 2009.
