Cowgirl Soccer to Host Spring Tournament, Fall Schedule Announced

March 19, 1999

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming Women's Soccer Program will be hosting a Spring Tournament this Sunday, March 21, at the UW Soccer Stadium. Head coach Anne Moore also released the team's schedule for the Fall 1999 season.

Along with the Cowgirls, teams from Colorado Christian University, Regis University, National American University (Rapid City, South Dakota) and the Colorado Elite club team will be seeing game action on Sunday. The tournament will consist of eight total games, starting at 10:00 a.m. and ending at approximately 4:00 p.m.

UW will start the day against Colorado Christian at 10:45 a.m., then play Regis at 12:15 p.m., National American University at 1:45 p.m. and finish the day against Colorado Elite at 3:15 p.m. Admission to Sundays games will be free to the public.

The Cowgirls are practicing several times a week as a team this spring in preparation for their fall season. Moore has 14 players returning from last year's team and her team will be playing in several other regional tournaments this spring.

With the spring season Moore is trying to establish several things to serve as the basis for her program. "We've done a lot of fitness so far this spring," says Moore. "We're trying to get them to work better as a team and to make quicker decisions. We want them to play as a unit and we're trying to establish a style of play. We want more of an attacking mentality from the players. Individually they've picked up some technical skills and there has been improvement. They've been working extremely hard."

Wyoming's Fall 1999 schedule includes matches against the six other Mountain West Conference schools with women's soccer, as well as 12 non-conference opponents. Of the 18 total games, only six will be home matches for the Cowgirls. "We have a really competitive schedule this fall, as far as the team's we'll be playing against. All our opponents have had success in the past. Unfortunately this year we only have two home conference games and four away games in the first year of the Mountain West Conference. Next year we'll have four at home and two on the road."
