LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wyoming's Cowgirl soccer team looked strong through their 2007 spring schedule going a perfect 7-0-1. Wyoming outscored their opponents 27-3.
"We played extremely well throughout the entire spring and the entire coaching staff is proud of the way we have started the year," head coach Anne Moore said.
"This spring our team has played a lot quicker than in the past. The way we have been possessing the ball has led to a lot of quality scoring opportunities," Moore continued.
The Cowgirls scored a combined 27 goals during the spring season and only gave up three with a young, but talented defense.
"Our defense is going to be pretty young this season, but they played so well and acted like they were in mid-season form. Both our goalkeepers played exceptionally well coming up with some big saves," Moore said.
In their final weekend of competition, Wyoming tied CU 0-0, who made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Wyoming finished their spring schedule by defeating the Air Force Academy Falcons 2-0, who earlier had tied CU 0-0.
The Cowgirls selected team captains for the 2007 fall season during the spring schedule. Senior Andrea Soltau, junior Amanda Lathrop and sophomore Emily Layton were selected and will have the honor of being named captains for the year.
"Overall this spring gave us a lot of confidence heading into the fall," Moore continued. "Our expectations are high and our individual meetings have been very positive. We all look forward to returning from summer break and getting the season started."
The Cowgirls will finish up their spring meetings before the summer break and return in mid August for the fall season.
