The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccerteam closed out their spring schedule with competition at the Air ForceAcademy last Saturday. The Cowgirls went 1-0-2 for the tournament closingout their spring record with an 5-1-4 record.
UW's only victory of the weekend came against Colorado College by a scoreof 1-0. Renee Minero scored the lone goal for the Cowgirls. In their nexttwo games the Cowgirls, along with their opponents Colorado Christian andAir Force, were unable to put the ball in the net. Both games resulted in a0-0 tie. The Cowgirl defense highlighted the weekend, as well as the springseason, by shutting out their opponents in the final eight games of thespring season.
"Overall the team has become a better unit this spring," said Cowgirlsoccer head coach Ann Moore. "The girls are playing better than they everhave, and individually we are getting more confident which carries over tohelping the team compete at a higher level."
"The upperclassmen have worked very hard to finish out their careerssuccessfully. We are so much more confident than we were last season at thistime. This fall is going to be very exciting. Our program is making bigstrides and with hard work and the dedication of these girls we are going tocontinue to get better."
The Cowgirls open up the 2003 season with an exhibition game against RegisUniversity Aug. 21 at the UW Soccer Stadium in Laramie. The contest isslated for 4:00 p.m.
