LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team and first-year head coach Pete Cuadrado announced the 2012 soccer schedule Tuesday. The Cowgirls will host 12 home matches at the Louis S. Madrid Soccer Pitch. The 2012 schedule will also feature four 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifiers.
"I think our schedule came out well for us this season," Cuadrado said. "It is nice to have 12 home games so our fans can see us play some very good teams."
The Cowgirl season will begin on Saturday, Aug. 11, with an exhibition match against Denver in Denver, Colo. Wyoming will open the home season on Tuesday, Aug. 14 with their final exhibition match against Colorado School of Mines.
The UW regular season will begin with three consecutive home matches beginning Aug. 17 against 2011 NCAA qualifier Montana. The following Sunday, Aug. 19, the Cowgirls will host Lamar. They will close the three-match home stand on Friday, Aug. 24 against Montana State-Billings.
The Cowgirls' first road contest of the regular season will be Sunday, Aug. 26, when they travel to Ogden, Utah, to take on Weber State.
Following the trip to Ogden, the Cowgirls will return home on Friday (8-31) and Sunday (9-2) to take on Nebraska-Omaha and Eastern Washington.
The annual Front Range Derby against Northern Colorado will be played Thursday, Sept. 6, in Greeley, Colo. The Cowgirls defeated the Bears 2-1 in Laramie in 2011.
On Sunday, Sept. 9 Wyoming will return to Laramie for its second three-match home stand. The Cowgirls will begin the home stretch hosting their second 2011 NCAA qualifier of the season in Washington State. They will conclude the home stand the following Friday and Sunday (Sept. 14-16) as they welcome Colorado and Utah Valley to the Louis S. Madrid Soccer Pitch.
Wyoming's final non-conference foe will be a road test against two-time Western Athletic Conference champion and 2011 NCAA tournament participant Utah State on Sept. 23 in Logan, Utah.
The Mountain West portion of the schedule will begin Saturday, Sept. 29 with a trip to Las Vegas to take on UNLV.
The Cowgirls will return to Laramie for another three-match home stand beginning with MW newcomer Fresno State on Oct. 6. They will continue the home matches by welcoming the other new conference foe, Nevada, on Oct. 12. The final of the three matches will be played Sunday, Oct. 14 against Boise State.
Following the three matches at home the Cowgirls will take a Friday-Sunday road trip on Oct. 19-21 to take on San Diego State (10-19) and New Mexico (10-21). The Lobos are the reigning MW regular season and tournament champions as well as a 2011 NCAA participant.
The Cowgirls' final regular season game will be Senior Day at the Madrid Pitch as they play host to the Air Force Academy on Friday, Oct. 26.
"Our conference schedule is always going to be challenging, our goal is to make another run at a conference championship," Cuadrado said.
The 2012 Mountain West Conference Championship will take place Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 31-Nov. 4 in San Diego, Calif.
