Cowgirl Soccer Begins Fall Training

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team will begin training for the 2011 fall season on Wednesday with their first preseason practice. The Cowgirls will have two-a-day practices for the first week on the North 40 Cowgirl practice fields.

"Our staff and players are really looking forward to the start of training tomorrow," Cowgirl soccer head coach Danny Sanchez said. "It should be a competitive and exciting preseason."

Cowgirl Soccer will practice in Laramie for the remainder of the week before traveling to Jackson, Wyo., on Sunday, Aug. 7 for the annual Brown and Gold game. That game will begin at 5 p.m.

The Cowgirls welcome back 10 letterwinners from a season ago, as well as six starters from a squad that went 7-10-3. UW soccer also welcomes 10 newcomers to this season's roster.

"We have 10 new players that are really ready to compete with our returning group," Sanchez added.

Wyoming soccer begins its 2011 season on Saturday, Aug. 13 with an exhibition match against Denver at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex, beginning at 1 p.m. The Cowgirls will begin their regular season six days later with a trip to the Boise State Tournament for two games. UW will take on Oregon on Aug. 19 at 2:30 p.m., followed by Montana on Aug. 21 at 11:30 a.m. Wyoming's first home game of the regular season will be Friday, Sept. 9 against Cleveland State beginning at 4 p.m.
