Cowgirl Soccer Set to Begin Fall Drills on Wednesday

Aug. 3, 2015

The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team will begin its 2015 season with the first practice on Wednesday. Fourth-year head coach Pete Cuadrado will lead his team through two-a-day practices over the next several weeks as the Cowgirls prepare for their regular-season opener on Aug. 21 against Montana.

“We are all very excited to begin the 2015 preseason practices this week,” Cuadrado said. “The players have already put in a very good effort with our strength and conditioning staff to prepare themselves, and now we get to put that work into action on the soccer field.

Cuadrado, who was named 2014 Mountain West Coach of the Year, welcomes back eight starters and 15 letterwinners to a team that went 11-9-1 overall and 8-3 in league play a year ago. Of the returning starters, sophomore Kaitlyn Lomsnes will be one of the top honors candidates for the Cowgirls. Lomsnes was selected to the All-Pacific Region Second Team, the MW Freshman of the Year, Offense Player of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection in her first season with the program. Joining her will be this year’s team captains Alisha Bass, Mandy Meyer and Laurel Ramer.

“Having a great core of returners will help this group get into a high-level training environment from the start, which will allow the staff to begin to piece the team together on the field. We also have two quality scrimmages which will really help show everyone where we're at heading into opening weekend.”

Wyoming will host two exhibition games at the Louis S. Madrid Complex prior to beginning regular-season play. The Cowgirls will host the Omaha Mavericks on Aug. 13, and the Colorado School of Mines, on Aug. 17. Both matches are set to begin at 5 p.m. MT. The game against the Mavericks will feature a Pistol’s Pals Clinic and a team meet and greet.

Season tickets for soccer can be purchased for $55 for the general public, $50 for UW Faculty/Staff or $30 for youth (ages 3-12). Admission for single matches are $8 for adults, $5 for children (3-12) and students are free with their WyoOne ID Card.
