LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Cowgirl Soccer team will begin the 2010 fall campaign on Saturday, Aug. 14 with an exhibition match against the Regis University Rangers.
The match between the Cowgirls and the Rangers will begin at 1 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
"Our preseason practices have been going great, the tempo and speed of play have been excellent," said UW head soccer coach Danny Sanchez. "We are excited to get to a real match to see how our players perform."
The Cowgirls welcome back to the team 12 letterwinners and six starters from a team that went 9-8-3, and qualified for the MWC tournament for the first time since 2007. Wyoming also adds seven newcomers to this year's squad. Cowgirl soccer brings back their top goal scorer from last season in sophomore Carmen Blume, as well as six seniors that add to a very experienced and deep team.
The Cowgirls would also like to announce their three team captains for the 2010 season, which feature two seniors and a sophomore. The Cowgirl captains, as selected by their peers are, senior midfielder Jules Candelaria, senior defender Bostyn Burger and sophomore defender Mara Cosgrove.
In the preseason MWC coaches poll released earlier this week Wyoming soccer was picked to finish sixth. Defending MWC champion BYU was picked to finish first, followed by conference tournament champion San Diego State and Utah, who tied for second place. Following SDSU and Utah was TCU in fourth, New Mexico fifth, and rounding out the poll was UNLV and Air Force in seventh and eighth.
Saturday's game will be free to the public, but the UW ticket office will be there selling season tickets for regular season matches. Also, student Stampede members who attended the game will get four points toward their Stampede account, which equals $4 at the Brown and Gold Outlet.

Regis ended the 2009 season with a 14-5-4 record, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship, where they were defeated in the first round. The Rangers welcome back their top two goal scorers in Jordan Miller and Marissa Davis, who both scored double digit goals last season.
