With the much-anticipated 2012 season underway, the Cowgirl soccer team returns to Laramie to host Colorado School of Mines Tuesday, Aug. 14, for a final exhibition match.
Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Admission is free to the public. Live stats can be seen via Twitter at @WYOSOCCER.
"We're excited to play and improve from our last game," said Wyoming coach Pete Cuadrado. "We learned a lot from Saturday's match at Denver and we hope to get better every game."
The Orediggers come to Laramie ranked No. 5 in the nation among NCAA Division II schools by the NSCAA. CSM went 17-2-4 in 2011, including a 10-2 mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 7-1 in road games. Tuesday's matchup with the Cowgirls is the season opener for CSM.
The Orediggers are led by senior Megan Woodworth and junior Anna Evans, who combined for 25 goals last season and 128 shots. CSM outscored its opponents 50-17 in 2011 and outshot opponents by a count of 322-194.
Wyoming lost a close battle with Denver Saturday as the Pioneers edged the Cowgirls, 2-1, with a late score in the 82nd minute of regulation. After a Pioneer score early in the second half, Wyoming tied it at one apiece just two minutes later with a Kristin Howardgoal.
The first official game of the regular season is Friday, Aug. 17, as Wyoming takes on the Montana Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
