The University of Wyoming Soccer teamfinished their preseason with a dominating 6-0 victory over the NorthernState Wolves today.
The Cowgirls were much improved from their last game and came out with avengeance. Fifteen minutes into play, Sara Stephens scored unassisted.Kelly McShane netted a goal under ten minutes later on the assist by SancyFlorquist. Florquist, then scored herself only minutes later. A tired NSU teamemptied their bench with substitutions, but could not keep the Cowgirls fromscoring again, this time by Meredith Russo. The Cowgirls went into the halfwith an unprecedented 4-0 lead.
Period two was much like the first, though this time the Wolves held theCowgirls to scoring only two more goals. The first by Sara Stephens fiveminutes into the half off the pass from Kelly McShane, and the second twelveminutes later by Jessica Piccone. Laura Miceli helped out on the assist.NSU goalies had 21 saves in the 44 shots taken by the Cowgirls, mostprevalently by Kelly McShane who took seven shots. Renee' Minero, JessicaPiccone and Katrina Morton all took four shots, contributing to the 15Cowgirls who had shots. Goalkeepers Amanda Vandervort and Sara Kuyper werelargely unused with one save for Vandervort on the only shot-on-goal takenby the Wolves.
"I think everyone did a good job," said head coach Anne Moore. "We usedthis game to try girls in a lot of different positions. The speed of playneeds to be a lot quicker, but this will definitely give them confidence inour games against Boise State and Hawaii this weekend."
