Laramie, Wyo. -

Athlete of the Week

Allison Masumiya

How do you get mentally prepared for a game?
Music always helps me get mentally prepared for the game, as well as going over our opponent's strengths and weaknesses. I like visually seeing what we need to do before the game, it helps me a lot.

Do you have any superstitions when it comes to soccer?
I always lace up my cleats a certain way before matches.

What is your favorite thing about road trips?
My favorite thing about road trips has to be spending time with the team and getting to eat great meals before games!

What do you like to do in your free time?
Relax! Being a student athlete you are always on the go! I try to make time to sit back, relax and take this whole experience and opportunity I have here in.

If you could be anyone else for a day, who would it be?
Gisele Bundchen. Not because she's a super model or anything, but because I've always dreamed of being married to Tom Brady.

What other sports do you enjoy playing?
I love basketball. I play with my brother when I am home in the summer just for fun!

Since you are a senior, what do you want to do after college?
I plan on moving back to California where I grew up and hopefully getting a teaching job there in a kindergarten classroom!

What does it mean to you to wear the Brown and Gold colors for UW?
When I wear the brown and gold colors for UW I feel very grateful and honored to have the opportunity to play soccer and represent a Division 1 University. I take a lot of pride in wearing our school colors and strive to be the best athlete, student and person while wearing them!

What is your favorite meal?
I love Mexican food. Cheese enchiladas, rice and beans are my favorite. But during soccer season I love eating Italian food as well. Pasta is another one of my favorites and I get my fair share of carbs too, which makes it great for pre game meals!

If you had to sum up your playing style in one word, what would it be?
My coach says I am a tactical player. I think that I have grown to become a more tactical player on the field because of all my experience here at UW. Every game, practice, and team meeting I learn something new that makes me more tactically flexible and smart.

What was your favorite vacation you have ever taken?
My favorite vacation I have ever taken had to be during my senior year in high school when my whole family went to Hawaii for my cousin's wedding. I am very close with my family including my grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, I love spending time with them!

What have you enjoyed that most about Wyoming?
The community, being from California I am used to the big city and lots of people. It is a nice change to come to Laramie every year and live in a small town. I think it is really cool to walk around town and people recognize that you are on the soccer team at UW that would never happen in California. The people in the community are awesome here.

Who is your role model?
I have a lot of role models in my life. I've always looked up to my parents; they have always been there to support me in every step I take. I look up to my little brother as well; I've always admired his hard work and passion for everything he does. Also my grandmother, her strength is incredible and I look up to her very much.

If you could bring one store into Laramie that is currently not here, what would it be?
I think a mall in Laramie would be great and give the college students something to do. But, if I had a choice I would bring an Olive Garden up here. We drive to Cheyenne to eat Olive Garden all the time, if it was in town it would be way more convenient!

What game are you most looking forward to this season and why?
I would have to say TCU. This year we go to Texas and play TCU on their home turf. The last time we were there we beat the Frogs in double overtime and the feeling after that game was incredible and unforgettable. I want to go back this year and achieve that great feeling again!
