Mountain West Network Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming sophomore forward Shaina Ashouri was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for her performance's against Morehead State and Drake over the weekend.
The native of Parker, Colo., helped the Cowgirls defeat two teams this past weekend with victories over the Eagles and the Bulldogs, 1-0 and 3-1, respectively. For the first time in her career, against Drake, she scored two goals in a single match. Her second score of the season came in the 34th minute, while her third came in the 46th minute against the Bulldogs. Her offensive pressure helped keep the home streak alive for Wyoming as they have not lost a game at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex since 2013.
"When the team does well, individuals get awards," Cowgirl soccer head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "It is great that the team was able to continue our home win streak."
Ashouri leads the Cowgirls in shots, with 15, and in goals, with three. She totaled seven shots on the weekend, with four of them against Morehead State. The Cowgirl has started every game this year with 431 minutes of action for Wyoming. She is the first player to win this award for UW this season. Since Ashouri won this award, she now has a bid for the National Offensive Player of the Week.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Friday to face the Kansas Jayhawks at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex at 4:30 p.m. MT.
