The University of Wyoming women's soccer team is set to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex on Friday at 4:30 p.m. MT. The Jayhawk's are led by senior Liana Salazar who is ranked ninth in the TopDrawerSoccer player rankings.
The Cowgirls are coming off two victories against Morehead State and Drake. Both wins moved Wyoming's record to 2-0-3 overall on the season. UW is looking to continue their home win streak as they are now 8-0-0 since 2013 at Louis S. Madrid.
Wyoming has been impressive on both sides of the pitch recording six goals and three shutouts in just five games. The Cowgirl offense has tallied 76 shots, which is the most in the first five games since 2008. Wyoming has had 40 corner kicks, which is the most in history through the first five games of the season. UW's goalkeeping duo, Georgia Rowntree and Cassidy Entsminger, have stopped 14 shots from entering the net this season.
Sophomore Shaina Ashouri was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for her performance in two Cowgirl victories over the weekend. She leads Wyoming in goals with three, and also is the team leader in shots with 15 on the season. Cowgirls Laurel Ramer, Kimmy Burbank and Alyssa Murray have also notched goals for UW.
The Jayhawks will come into Laramie with a 2-3-1 record. They have wins over SMU and North Texas. Last season, Wyoming lost to Kansas 3-1 in Lawrence, Kan. KU holds a 3-1-0 all-time record against the Cowgirls.
Mini American flags will be given away at Friday's game. Military members will get free admission into the game and a free hot dog and soda with a military ID.
