LARAMIE, Wyo. - Cowgirls Sit on 1-2-1 Record

Wyoming's first road trip of the season resulted in the Cowgirls' second loss of theseason and their first tie.

The first match of the trip ended in a 2-0 loss to the University of Alabama on Fri.,Sept. 7. The game was tied throughout the competition as Wyoming kept the Crimson Tide incheck and created opportunities.

"We played a very fast, physical team," UW head coach Anne Moore said. "Our playersdid a great job in the middle and in the back shutting them down."

Wyoming was limited to five shots compared to Alabama's twelve, but neither team scored until UA's Kim Zarzour snuck one past Cowgirl goalie Sarah Kuyper at 71:22. The Tide turned around and scored quickly again on a direct kick from freshman forward Katie French at 88:59. French assisted UA's first goal.

"It was a frustrating game because we did everything right, and they got two easy goals," Moore said.

The final game of the trip, against the University of South Alabama, resulted in a 1-1 tie after two scoreless overtime periods. Eight Cowgirls attempted to score, but UW's lone goal came from freshman Melissa Bowman at 38:06. This was the newcomer's first collegiate goal.Wyoming looked like they may be able to pull off the win until South Alabama's Melissa Moeschl scored in the second period on a penalty kick at 61:00 that got past UW's goalie, Sarah Kuyper. Kuyper played the full 120 minutes of the long game, making eight saves.At the end of regulation, the teams played double overitme, but neither were able to produce a goal. The game ended in the Cowgirls' third tie in history after another scoreless period.

The Cowgirls had an off weekend after their games with San Francisco and Creigton were canceled. They return to action on the road, facing Weber State and Utah State on Fi., Sept. 21 and Sun., Sept. 23. The Cowgirls won't be home again until Oct. 7 when they face Denver University.

Weber State Wildcats

The Cowgirls head to Ogden, Utah to face the Wildcats in what will be their first match in twelve days.

The 'Cats are 1-3-1 so far this season. Their first win of the season came Sept. 9 when they trounced Youngstown State, 9-1. Sophomore forward Natalie Hensley leads the team with four goals and twenty-nine shots this season.

Utah State Aggies

The Aggies claimed their first victory of the season on Sept. 7 when they defeated Nevada, 2-1. Utah's record so far this season sits at 1-2. They have yet to win a home match this season.
