LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team opens the conference portion of its schedule at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex on Friday against the San José State Spartans. The Cowgirls will also host the Fresno State Bulldogs on Sunday. Wyoming looks to keep the home winning streak rolling as they enter conference play, they hold a 4-0-0 record at home and a 4-1-3 overall mark this season. UW has not lost a home game since the 2013 season.
"It's about improving game by game," Cowgirl soccer head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "We had one game where we stubbed our toe and I think that we have learned from that."
Sophomore forward Shaina Ashouri leads the Cowgirls in goals with six, which ranks second in the Mountain West. She also leads Wyoming in shots with 31, and places her third in the MW. Sophomore goalkeeper Georgia Rowntree has two shutouts this season, tying her for first in the conference.
The Spartans are led by Darlene Rodriguez with three goals and two assists. SJSU is 2-4-2 on the year with wins over Lamar and Sacramento State. The Cowgirls beat the Spartans 1-0 last season but San José State holds a 3-2-0 all-time record over Wyoming.
The Bulldogs currently have a 1-6-0 record. They are led by Peyton Cline and Angie Weiner, as they each have one goal on the season. Wyoming won last season's match up against Fresno State 2-0. That was the first victory over FSU in the all-time series. The Bulldogs hold a 2-1-1 overall record against the Cowgirls.
"We are excited to get to conference," Cuadrado added. "Everybody starts with a new record, we have to make sure that we come out and are ready to play."
Kick-off is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. MT against San José State on Friday. The match against Fresno State will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
