Wyoming Soccer to Host UniWyo Shootout this Weekend

The University of Wyoming soccer team is set to host the 2005 UniWyo Cowgirl Shootout this weekend at the UW Soccer Stadium. The Cowgirls welcome Nevada, Oregon and South Dakota State to Laramie.

Each team will play two games on the weekend, one on Friday and one on Sunday. Oregon and Nevada will open the shootout at 1 p.m. on Friday. The Cowgirls will take on South Dakota State at 4 p.m. on Friday.

On Sunday, Nevada will take on South Dakota State at 11 a.m. and Wyoming will play Oregon at 2 p.m.

Wyoming enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-2-3. Last weekend, they played to a 1-1 tie with William and Mary and lost to Old Dominion 5-1 on the road.

The Cowgirls are led by senior Mercy Adetoye and freshman Tamika Wilson on the offensive end of the field. Adetoye has scored four goals this season and is just one goal shy of tying UW's all-time record for career goals. Wilson has also scored four goals on the season and has dished out one assist. All four of her goals came in UW's first three games.

Defensively, the Cowgirls are led by senior Kara Walters who has started 49 consecutive games entering this weekend. Sophomore Ashley Sheppard and freshman Jamie Scarcliff have split time in the UW net, recording two shutouts and allowing just 1.38 goals a game.

Nevada is currently 4-3-1 on the season after beating New Mexico 2-0 and Washington 3-0 last weekend in Reno, Nev. The Wolfpack brings a national player of the week to Laramie in freshman Randee Robinson. Robinson was named to the SoccerBuzz Magazine Elite Team of the Week on Wednesday for her performance last weekend. The freshman led the Wolfpack defense to two shutout victories and scored a pair of goals in the process.

Oregon enters the weekend with the best record in the field at 6-1-1. They are led by Nicole Garbin on offense who has scored six goals on the year. Jessie Chatfield has played every minute in the Duck goal, allowing eight goals and making 31 saves. Last weekend they beat North Carolina State 1-0 and South Dakota State 2-0 in Eugene.

South Dakota State is currently 2-5-1 after losing to Oregon 2-0 and Oregon State 3-0 last weekend on the road. They are led by freshman Chelsea Goosen who has scored four goals on 17 shots this season. Junior Jenn Davis and freshman Nicole Lograsso have split time in the Jackrabbit goal, allowing 16 goals while making 43 saves.
