The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team will open their conference season and play an internationally televised game on Fox Soccer Channel this weekend.
On Friday, the Cowgirls will begin their Mountain West Conference season against Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. Then on Sunday, Wyoming will play Northern Colorado for a televised game from Greeley, Colo. The game will be the FSC Game of the Week.
"The team is excited to start conference play at Air Force on Friday," said UW head coach Danny Sanchez. "The match on Fox Soccer Channel is very exciting and we are hoping to put on a good show for all our fans."
Wyoming is currently 5-4-2 after hosting the 2009 UniWyo Cowgirl Classic. The Cowgirls fell to Gonzaga, but defeated UC Riverside 1-0.
The Falcons will also open conference play on Friday and are currently 2-8-1. Wyoming owns a 7-6 overall series record advantage and have won six straight against the Falcons.
Sunday will be the second televised game ever for UW soccer. This year's Front Range Derby will be the seventh meeting between the Cowgirls and Bears. UW holds the all-time record lead at 5-1. This season, UNC posts a record of 4-4-1.
Kickoff for the Falcons and Cowgirls on Friday will be at 5 p.m. in Colorado Springs, Colo. On Sunday, game time is set for 3 p.m. between the Cowgirls and Bears in Greeley, Colo. The game can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel Tuesday, October 6th at 6 p.m. Mountain Time.
