Oct. 24, 2005

Wyoming senior forward Mercy Adetoye and senior defender Kara Walters have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Adetoye, from Englewood, Colo., played a part in all three goals the Cowgirls scored in their two conference victories. In Friday's 1-0 double overtime win against New Mexico, she dished out the game-winning assist to make her the all-time career assist leader in Wyoming history. On Sunday, Adetoye scored both goals in the 2-0 win over TCU. She now stands as UW's all-time leader in goals scored (22), points (53), assists (9), shots (160) and is tied for second in game-winning goals (5).

Walters, a Casper, Wyo., native, anchored a Cowgirl defense that shutout both New Mexico and TCU on the weekend. In Friday's 1-0 win over New Mexico, the center defender helped hold the Lobos scoreless through 105 minutes of soccer. In Sunday's 2-0 win over TCU, Walters led the Cowgirls to their second shutout of the weekend and helped hold the Horned Frogs to just seven shots in the match. On the weekend, the Cowgirls did not surrender a goal in 195 minutes and seven seconds of soccer.
