LARAMIE, Wyo. - After tying the program's all-time regular season high for goals last weekend at 29 for the year, the Cowgirl soccer team finishes the 2012 season with a home game against Air Force Friday at 3 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
Wyoming (7-8-2, 0-5-1 MW) is among the Mountain West leaders in several categories, including second in goals with 29 (1.71/game), second in assists with 23 (1.35) and sixth in shots (207) for 12.18 attempts per game. In conference games, the Cowgirls have earned 67 shot attempts, which includes 14 from sophomore forward Sara Paul, eighth-most in the MW.
Leading the MW in assists with 10, Paul is tied for eighth in the nation for the category averaging .59 per game. She is also tied for fifth in the league in points with 14 for the year. Olivia Mohtadi and Lucie McDowell are tied for fifth in the MW in goals with five apiece, while midfielder Liz O'Reilly is fourth in the conference in assists with six. Goalie Courtney Merkle has 31 saves through six league games, third-most in the MW.
The Falcons (5-8-3, 0-6-0 MW) are on a six-game losing streak following a 3-0 loss to No. 6 San Diego State and a 1-0 loss to New Mexico last weekend. Air Force has been outscored 10-0 in conference games and 16-12 for the year as they have struggled away from home with a 0-5-1 away record.
Air Force is tied for third in the MW in goals allowed with 16, fourth in goals-against average at .950 and fifth in shots with 219 this season. The Falcons are led by forward Stephanie Patterson, who is tied for fourth in the league in game-winning goals with two, and is fifth in goals with five.
Forward Megan Dozier is tied for seventh in assists with four, while keeper Kelly Stambaugh is second in save percentage at .830, third in saves at 78 and fourth in GAA at .960. She also has five shutouts in 2012.
