LARAMIE, Wyo. - Cowgirl soccer will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday, Oct. 29 to take on the Air Force Falcons in both teams final regular season match of the 2011 season. The Cowgirls currently sit in fourth place of the Mountain West standings with the possibility of finishing in a four-way tie for first place.
"There is still a lot for us to play for this weekend," Cowgirl head coach Danny Sanchez said. "The results of the matches on Friday and our match on Saturday have major implications on seeding in the MW tournament and regular season finishes. We really want to finish strong and build momentum for next week."
There are many scenarios that could play out this final weekend of regular season action, the most interesting of which could mean a four-way tie at the top of the MW standings. The best scenario for the Cowgirls would be a victory, a draw between San Diego State and UNLV, and a loss by New Mexico to TCU. With that scenario UW, SDSU, UNLV and UNM could tie for the regular-season crown.A season ago the Cowgirls and the Falcons tied 0-0 on the final regular season match for both teams. The tie advanced the Cowgirls to the postseason and eliminated the Falcons from postseason contention. The Cowgirls lead the all-time series, 8-6-1, against the Falcons, posting a 2-0-1 record under Sanchez.
Kickoff between Wyoming and Air Force is set for 1 p.m. MT.
