Cowgirls Battle San Diego State for Mountain West Title on Saturday

The University of Wyoming women's soccer team takes on San Diego State for the Mountain West Championship on Saturday at 8 p.m. MT at the SDSU Sports Deck in San Diego, Calif. This will be UW's second appearance in the MW title game in the last four seasons. The Cowgirls also battled for conference supremacy in 2011, but lost a 2-0 game to New Mexico.

Last time vs. San Diego State: Wyoming trails in the series 4-13-1, the last meeting on Oct. 24, 2014, with a 5-2 loss for the Cowgirls. SDSU capitalized on goals in the 20th and 41st minute for a 2-0 lead but Wyoming found the back of the net in the 30th minute off an assist.. UW came out in the second half pushing the ball forward but the Aztecs scored their third goal in the 53rd minute. Wyoming battled back with eight shots, but came up short SDSU found the back of the net in the 61st minute and another off a penalty kick in the 66th minute. UW as a free kick from an Aztec foul at the 72-minute mar, but it wasn't enough to overcome SDSU.

The Aztecs (14-4-2) advanced to the title game after outlasting Colorado College in the semifinals. The two were deadlocked at 1-1 after two overtimes, as the Aztecs earned the win 3-2 on penalty kicks.
